Shabbona Fishing and Camping Weekend

Fun camping weekend with the Charron's.  Fishing, cooking over the fire, and catching up.  We did more "catching up" than we did "catching of fish" but we had a good time overall.  Matt and I spotted three large muskie hunting the shoreline of the lake the first morning.  But despite our attempts to catch one with the king kong lure, we were still amazed at their size, speed, and force in the lake!  The boys did catch a few fish Saturday evening while the girls tended to the fire.  Crockett survived his first camping excursion without incident.  Definitely a place to return to as far as the camping goes.  The fishing, still to be determined.

Hidden Lake Trip

This morning Melissa and I hit Hidden lake to do some fishing. She was using a worm and a bobber and i was using a small jig with a worm on it. We were there for about two and a half hours. I caught the first LMB of the season and had strike the lure but missed setting the hook. The bass was a very small one but ill take what i can get.

April 9th - Pratts a bust

I went to Pratts Woods and tried a little bit of everything but came up dry. I did see a small beaver out scuttling around and scaring the fish away. Unfortunately he decided not to pose for me to take a picture of him.

Cooked Trout

We baked the trout whole with some lemon, very tasty.

April 3nd - Trout Day

Fishing Conditions:
Time: 7AM-9AM
Weather  40 Degrees
Wind - SE 20 MPH
Humidity - 52%

Today we headed over to Pratts Wayne Woods. It was cold and blustery today. Not the ideal fishing conditions for us fair weather fisher people. Melissa was on a worm and bobber and I was tossing my spinner. About an hour in I got a 2.1lb rainbow trout.  The slippery guy got out of my hands and almost got free but we got him in the end.  We ended up calling it quits because my pole broke (screw came out of the reel) and the wind was just too much for us.

April 2nd - Trout Evening

We both headed out in the evening to see about catching a few more trout at Grove Lake. We caught lots of weeds and got skunked for the first time this year.

April 2nd - Trout Day

Today is rainbow trout day in Chicago. All the ponds are stocked with rainbow trout and its wall to wall people. This year was no different. I went to Grove Lake in Wood Dale. I arrived about 6:30 AM and had to find a spot in a grove of trees as there were no open spots left. I tried using a worm and marshmallow for a while but flipped over to a bladed spinner.

I ended up with 2 rainbow trout, 1.5/1.6 lbs. I had 3 get away. If the weather holds up we will be heading out this afternoon as well.  These will make a tasty dinner!
